Mary Muessle was appointed Deputy Chief Financial Officer of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in February 2014 after serving in the position since July 2013. She is responsible for the planning, budgeting, and financial management for the agency.
Ms. Muessle has over 20 years of financial management experience in the government and private sectors as well as time in the non-profit sector.
Ms. Muessle entered federal service in 1992 at the former U.S. Information Agency, and she has served at the NRC since 2003. Ms. Muessle has a broad understanding of the agency and has worked in many areas in financial management as well as in technical management roles at the agency. She has served as a change agent assisting the NRC in building new offices and infrastructure to accommodate post 9-11 security requirements and new power reactor construction work.
Outside of the government, Ms. Muessle worked as a Senior Financial Manager for a wireless telecommunications venture and in both the credit and retail areas of a commercial bank.
Additionally, Ms. Muessle spent three years in rural Tanzania leading development teams for a non-profit organization.
Ms. Muessle received a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Education from Syracuse University and a Master of Business Administration from The George Washington University.
